Bases

Model bases vary according to the aesthetic and practical needs of the modeller. Plastic bases are very popular because of their lightness and durability. They are usually prefabricated in standard sizes and shapes, such as round, square or hexagonal. These bases are often used for figures in board games or wargames and are designed to be easily painted and decorated. Some models include textured details or patterns to make customisation easier.

Metal bases, usually made of iron or steel, are used to provide extra stability for heavier or more fragile miniatures. They are often chosen for games or dioramas where a sturdy base is required. Although they can be painted or decorated to match the theme of the model, their main advantage is their solidity.

Resin bases allow for extensive customisation thanks to their ability to capture intricate detail. They are often used to create bases with specific terrains or decorative effects such as ruins, battlefields or fantastical landscapes. Resin bases can be purchased in a variety of designs or homemade using moulds to create unique effects.

MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard) bases are made from composite materials and offer a good base for model making projects. These bases are often laser-cut and can feature engraved or cut-out details, allowing the base to be customised with elements such as paths, paving stones or decorative patterns. MDF is appreciated for its ease of cutting and its surface, which accepts paint well.

Each type of base can be adapted to different modelling styles according to aesthetic and functional needs, offering modellers a variety of options for creating unique bases to suit their figures or models.
