The Builders' obsession with specifying that their Mangonels are in no way catapults has become a subject of ridicule among the brothers of the Night's Watch. The Builders insist that only the gigantic machines that adorn the Wall and use special projectiles deserve to be called catapults. Be that as it may, when a Mangonel sends a rock weighing over a hundred pounds straight into the enemy ranks, decimating the best-protected troops, nobody really cares about this distinction any more. Mangonels are formidable, but difficult to move and particularly vulnerable to enemy cavalry.
