Texturing Tools
In model making, texturing tools are used to give realism to the surfaces of models. Hard-bristle brushes are used to simulate wood, rust or wear effects. Foam sponges are ideal for creating irregular textures, such as stone walls or damaged concrete. Engraving tools, such as styluses or fine points, are used to draw cracks or sculpted details. Sandpaper is often used to age or erode certain parts. Stencils can also be used to apply regular patterns. Powdered pigments add depth and a dirty effect. Texturing pastes, available in stores, can be used to simulate mud, snow or rust in relief. Textured aerosols give a fine or coarse grain depending on the desired effect. Finally, combining these techniques gives scale models an authentic and lifelike appearance.
