Generally speaking, units specialising in ranged combat are vulnerable when the enemy approaches for close combat. But that's not the case with the Guard of Thorns. These crossbowmen have also undergone intensive training in the use of the longsword, enabling them to defend themselves in hand-to-hand combat with some effectiveness, although they are no match for specialist units in this field.
The Guard of Thorns offers the commanders of House Baratheon, supporters of Renly, a versatile ranged unit for their army. Experts with crossbows that can easily pierce enemy armour, they are also skilled in close combat. What's more, they possess disengagement techniques, enabling them to withdraw and then resume their deadly fire on the enemy. The Sentinel Thorn Guard attachment boosts the unit's stamina and gives it greater mobility on the battlefield.
A basic box is required to use this expansion.
