Hundred Kingdoms: Errant of the Order of the Shield (Officer)

In the early days of the Hundred Kingdoms, the Order of the Shield took it upon themselves to protect mankind from its most dangerous predators. Rejecting the combat formations of their predecessors, the Order of the Shield roamed the lands alone, seeking to alleviate suffering wherever they could. The Emperor elevated their Order to the rank of Imperial Magistrates, allowing the Knights Errant of the Shield to serve as judges, jurors and executioners, except against the most powerful noble houses. This did not make them popular with the nobility, and when the last Emperor died, one of their first acts was to hunt down and destroy all members of this ancient order. Today, they are few and far between, but continue their thankless task of protecting the citizens and peasants of the 100 Kingdoms from all those who would exploit them, especially the nobility themselves.
