Waffen-SS (1943-45) Weapons Teams

The Panzerschreck was Germany’s adaptation of the American bazooka, first encountered in North Africa. It fired a large-caliber shaped-charge projectile and had such a powerful back-blast that early crews had to wear protective capes and masks. Later versions featured a blast shield, giving the weapon its distinctive look. By 1944, both the Panzerschreck and the disposable Panzerfaust had replaced the earlier Panzerbüchse 39 anti-tank rifle.

During the Battle of Stalingrad, Soviet snipers inflicted devastating losses on German forces, prompting the Wehrmacht to train their own sharpshooters. These German snipers used a range of rifles such as the KAR-98K and the semi-automatic Gewehr 43, both equipped with ZF39 telescopic sights and precision ammunition. Flamethrowers—Flammenwerfer—were used throughout the war, especially in assaults on fortifications and buildings. A compact one-shot version, the Eintossflammenwerfer, was developed late in the war, though its battlefield use remains uncertain.
