To test the latest equipment and technologies emerging from Britain’s Rift-tech labs and workshops, the 7th Battalion Grenadier Guards were seconded to the Rift Research Department. Their role was to conduct field trials of cutting-edge weapons and gear. After initial lab validation, platoons from the battalion were deployed to frontline positions to evaluate the equipment in real combat scenarios.
While some trials ended in failure, many of the prototypes gave immediate benefits to supporting infantry units. Over the past two years, the battalion has gained deep familiarity with Rift-tech systems and is now regarded as both a specialist research unit and an elite shock force. Their dual role has enhanced their operational flexibility and battlefield value.
Though still formally part of the Guards Division, the unit is more commonly known as “The Grenadiers” or, increasingly, the “Rift Grenadiers.” This hybrid unit stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation, continuing the storied legacy of the Guards while embracing the future of warfare.
