The Objekt 231 was born from an urgent strategic need within Soviet forces. Despite the battlefield successes of the Kazak light walker, repeated engagements with Axis heavy Panzer walkers resulted in significant losses. A swift and decisive countermeasure was required, and the OKMO design bureau at the Bolshevik Factory in Leningrad was tasked with developing a new heavy walker capable of confronting the Axis machines head-on.
The Objekt 231 design draws inspiration from the Axis Thor heavy walker, while deliberately pursuing a more pragmatic engineering philosophy. Rather than adopting the Axis’ complex six-legged configurations or the Allies’ technically demanding bipedal designs, OKMO engineers selected a simpler and more reliable quadruped chassis. This approach provided excellent stability, mechanical reliability, and the structural strength needed to carry heavy armament under combat conditions.
Originally conceived as a mobile bunker, the Objekt 231 also revisits a classic Soviet concept. Its designers drew upon the multi-turret philosophy of OKMO’s massive 1930s T-35 tank, adapting it for a modern walker platform. This miniature is an iconic addition to any Soviet force, combining raw power, striking battlefield presence, and rich historical inspiration. The set contains one resin and metal miniature, supplied unassembled and unpainted, allowing full freedom for assembly and finishing.
