Theodore Roosevelt – Lost World Explorer – Born in 1854, Theodore Roosevelt, known as Teddy to his family, was a somewhat sickly child. Determined to overcome his frail constitution, he pursued a life of service. After the Ore War, he joined the Union military at seventeen, where his exuberance, wide-ranging interests, and robust character quickly made him a favorite among his comrades. He served in Cuba against Latin Alliance insurgents as part of the 273rd Cavalry Regiment, in the famed Rough Riders platoon.
Roosevelt’s success earned him promotion to First Lieutenant under Colonel Leonard Wood, and three years later he became a Major when the Rough Riders were deployed to Antarctica with the 12th Expeditionary Force. Following the Union’s defeat at Shirase Valley and the loss of their horses, Roosevelt ingeniously utilized domesticated Trodons, native saurian creatures, as mounts. He led his first Trodon cavalry detachment to repel Canadian Blackhoofs attempting to advance to the Ross Ice Shelf.
