Svetlana Volkova ranks among the Soviet Bloc’s most accomplished and dependable snipers. Long before the Second World War, the Soviet Union had placed greater emphasis on marksmanship than other major powers, and Svetlana has carried that tradition forward with exceptional skill. Awarded the Voroshilov Sharpshooter distinction at just 18, she has served in the Red Army since the launch of Operation Barbarossa.
Orphaned amid the turmoil of the 1917 Russian Revolution, Svetlana grew up in a state-run orphanage programme designed to prepare children to serve the newly established socialist state. Her remarkable aptitude for precision shooting soon set her apart from her peers. As the Rift War intensified, however, she found herself facing increasingly bizarre genetically altered enemies through her scope, bringing new challenges to even the most experienced marksman.
In late 1945, Svetlana was offered genetic enhancement similar to that undergone by the Daughters of the Motherland. She refused, believing her abilities were already proven and fearing that a failed procedure might dull the senses on which her effectiveness depended. Since her promotion to Lieutenant, she has been equipped with an experimental version of the PTRS-46 Pulya-Poykbi. The weapon’s considerable weight has forced an unusual arrangement: Svetlana must work alongside Nina, a Daughter of the Motherland whose enhanced strength allows her to carry the heavy equipment and act as her spotter.
This set brings together two complementary Soviet operatives: a highly skilled sniper armed with experimental weaponry and the enhanced partner who helps her deploy it effectively in the field.
