Gurkha Section (far East)
Renowned for their courage and unwavering loyalty, the Gurkhas of Nepal played a vital role during the Second World War. Over 250,000 Gurkha soldiers served in more than 40 battalions as part of the British Commonwealth forces. They saw action across multiple theatres, including Syria, North Africa, Italy, Greece, and Burma, where they faced the Japanese in some of the most intense fighting of the war.
Each Gurkha was not only armed with standard-issue firearms but also carried the traditional Nepalese khukuri—a heavy, curved knife designed for brutal close combat. With remarkable skill, fearlessness, and a chillingly calm demeanor, these warriors used the khukuri to devastating effect. Their iconic battle cry, "Ayo Gorkhali!", often echoed across the battlefield just moments before a fierce charge.
