Australian Jungle Division Infantry Section
In early 1943, the Australian Army restructured its militia and Australian Imperial Force units into leaner and more agile "Jungle Divisions" to meet the demands of warfare in the dense Pacific jungles. These formations were designed to be lighter and more mobile than their British counterparts, better suited to the terrain they were fighting in — thick foliage, steep ridges, and muddy tracks.
The new Jungle Divisions featured a substantial increase in short-range firepower. They were issued with almost 1,000 submachine guns, more than doubling the previous allocation. Troops from now redundant support, anti-aircraft, and transport units were reassigned to the infantry, boosting the rifle platoons' manpower. The number of field engineers was also doubled, allowing units to overcome natural obstacles like rivers and to deal with enemy booby traps. These reorganised forces became exceptionally well adapted to close-quarters combat and jungle warfare.
This box contains a set of metal miniatures designed to represent a typical Australian infantry section in the Pacific theatre. It includes 1 NCO armed with an SMG, a 2-man Bren gun light machine gun team, 4 soldiers with rifles, and 3 with submachine guns. The models are supplied unpainted and require assembly. Perfect for Bolt Action players looking to build an Australian force or collectors recreating the gritty jungle battles of the Second World War.
