Soviet Peoples Militia Squad
The “Popular Regimentation” or People’s Militia (Narodnoe Opolcheniye or Opolchenie) is a deeply rooted Russian tradition dating back to the 16th century. In times of national emergency, civilians volunteered to form militias and stand alongside the regular army in defense of their cities and homeland. These formations became a powerful symbol of popular resistance and patriotism throughout Russian history.
During the critical years of 1941–42, as the Soviet Union struggled against the advancing German forces, workers and civilians in major cities like Leningrad, Moscow, Rostov, and Stalingrad rallied to form militia battalions. Ill-equipped and hastily trained, these units were nonetheless thrown into frontline combat, where they fought with tragic determination and self-sacrifice. Their bravery in the face of overwhelming odds became an enduring part of the Soviet wartime legacy.
This box set contains 12 metal Soviet People’s Militia miniatures, each representing the rugged and varied appearance of civilian fighters turned soldiers. Their irregular look makes them equally well-suited for use as Soviet Partisans operating behind enemy lines. Plastic bases are included, making this set ideal for historical miniature collectors and tabletop wargamers looking to add depth and authenticity to their Soviet forces or resistance-themed scenarios.
