Soviet Army Anti-tank Teams
The Soviet Red Army used a wide variety of anti-tank weapons to counter German armored threats—ranging from traditional anti-tank rifles and chemical projectors to the highly unorthodox use of dogs as mobile anti-tank mines. These inventive solutions reflect the Soviet determination to halt the enemy by any means necessary, even when standard weaponry was lacking.
While most nations phased out anti-tank rifles due to their limited penetration power, the Soviets continued to deploy them in large numbers. These weapons required close-range engagement to be truly effective, often putting the operator in grave danger. The Ampulomet was a strange but effective solution: a glass-filled mortar launcher that projected incendiary chemicals such as phosphorus and sulfur. Though inaccurate, it could cause significant damage upon impact.
Perhaps the most controversial tactic was the use of dog mines—canines trained to run under enemy tanks while carrying an explosive charge triggered by a contact lever. While many dogs fled from the chaos of battle or returned to friendly lines, the shock value alone forced German units to shoot dogs on sight. Dog teams were credited with disabling tanks during key battles such as Kursk. This unique set includes one 2-man anti-tank rifle team, two dog mine teams, and one Ampulomet crew, all in metal with plastic bases. A compelling addition to any Bolt Action collection, it offers a historically rich and unusual way to diversify your Soviet forces.
