As Prussia returned to war against Napoleon during the final campaigns of the Napoleonic era, its cavalry proved to be one of the most effective mounted forces in Europe. Among these formations, the feared Prussian Uhlans stood out for their speed, versatility and imposing battlefield presence.
Serving as both light cavalry skirmishers and shock troops capable of joining the main battle line, the Uhlans fulfilled multiple battlefield roles throughout the Hundred Days campaign. Armed with long nine-foot lances and mounted for rapid manoeuvre, they posed a constant threat to enemy infantry and cavalry alike.
Their reputation was cemented during the 1815 campaign, particularly at Ligny where Prussian Uhlans famously rescued Marshal Blücher after his horse was brought down during the fighting.
For Black Powder, these mounted troops provide Prussian armies with mobility, aggression and strong visual character. Their black-and-white lance pennants instantly make the unit stand out on the tabletop.
The detailed sculpts capture the fast-moving and aggressive nature of Prussian lancer cavalry exceptionally well. Galloping horses, lowered lances and dark blue uniforms combine to create a striking unit once assembled and painted.
Swift, disciplined and capable of devastating charges, the Prussian Uhlans embody the battlefield efficiency that helped Prussia play a decisive role in Napoleon’s final defeat.
