Korean War: Chinese Pva Conscript Squad
A large portion of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army (PVA) was made up of conscripted peasant soldiers and prisoners taken during the Chinese Civil War. Many of these soldiers had surrendered during the Civil War and were forcibly conscripted, and their loyalty and effectiveness were often uncertain.
These conscripts often lacked formal military training and were equipped primarily with rifles, sometimes supplemented with shoulder satchels full of grenades. The performance of these units was unpredictable: some fought with distinction, while others required constant encouragement from political officers.
