The Tech-priests of the Mechanicum need a large pool of disposable labour to carry out their vast industrial operations. They have perfected the process of mutilation and consciousness suppression to create loyal Tech-thralls. When battle approaches, contingents of Adsecularis Tech-thralls are sent to the front line as cheap cannon fodder, advancing while firing a steady stream of lasers, even if they are shot down by enemy weapons.
