The QF 6-pounder was a highly successful successor to the earlier 2-pdr and was so effective that the Americans adopted it as the 57mm gun, M1. Its service life was extended thanks to continuous developments in ammunition, greatly enhancing its armour penetration. This allowed it to take out even heavily armoured German tanks like the Panther and Tiger when firing from the flanks.

Though eventually joined by the more powerful 17-pounder, the 6-pdr was never fully replaced and remained in service with infantry units well beyond the end of World War II. It was also adopted as the standard gun in many British tanks, although its relatively small explosive charge made its HE shells less effective. This limitation led to the eventual development of the more versatile 75mm gun, used in tanks like the Cromwell and Churchill. Still, the 6-pdr offered solid performance against armoured threats and was highly valued for its reliability.

A modified version of the QF 6-pdr was developed specifically for British airborne forces, using a special light carriage that allowed it to be towed like a lightweight anti-tank gun. This made it highly mobile and ideal for rapid deployment in airborne operations. This kit includes a finely detailed resin and metal model of the QF 6-pdr, supplied unassembled and unpainted — a great addition to any Bolt Action collection or historical wargaming force.
