Japanese Army Teishin Shudan Paratrooper Squad
Japanese paratroopers – known as Teishin Shudan (Raiding Group) – were among the most formidable elite forces of the early war years. Inspired by the German airborne successes of 1940, the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (IJAAF) developed its own paratrooper arm. Their first major deployment took place during the Battle of Palembang in February 1942, where one regiment dropped onto the airfield and another seized the town and oil refinery, achieving swift tactical success.
Despite their effectiveness, the high casualties sustained during these operations made Japanese high command reluctant to conduct further airborne drops. The Teishin Shudan were later repurposed to serve as elite ground infantry, much like their German counterparts. Trained to operate behind enemy lines and hardened by experience, they fought with the same fanatical devotion seen throughout the Japanese military. Their final airdrop occurred during a daring assault on US air bases in Leyte. Most were shot down before landing, and although the 300 men who reached the ground caused significant damage, they were eventually overwhelmed and destroyed.
This miniature set brings these legendary troops to life on the tabletop. Whether used for historical reenactments or as elite units in your Bolt Action army, these paratroopers embody the courage and determination that defined Japan's airborne forces. The models are supplied unassembled and unpainted, offering hobbyists the opportunity to build and paint a dramatic and memorable piece of World War II history. An ideal addition for both collectors and wargamers alike.
