Japanese Bamboo Spear Fighter Squad
As World War II progressed, Japanese forces were gradually driven back from the territories they had seized during the early stages of the conflict. With Allied bombing campaigns and ground offensives crippling Japan’s industrial capacity, the Imperial soldiers found themselves facing a critical shortage of firearms and ammunition. In response, they resorted to using whatever materials were available, including makeshift bamboo spears, grenade sacrifices, and bold final charges with drawn swords in what became known as desperate Banzai attacks.
This fierce resistance stemmed from an unshakable loyalty to the Emperor and a deep sense of national honor. To the Allied forces, such acts of bravery were both awe-inspiring and shocking, as these attacks rarely succeeded against superior firepower. Nevertheless, Japanese soldiers continued their assaults with unwavering determination, even when the odds were overwhelmingly against them.
This box set features a 10-man squad of Japanese infantry in a state of desperation yet resolute in their defiance. Their tattered uniforms and improvised bamboo spears reflect the harsh conditions and dwindling resources of Japan’s later wartime efforts. Inside the box, you will find 10 figures: one NCO armed with a sharpened bamboo spear and nine additional soldiers similarly equipped, along with 10 plastic bases. These miniatures are supplied unassembled and unpainted, perfect for collectors and wargamers seeking to recreate the dramatic final stands of the Imperial Japanese Army.
