Japanese Special Naval Landing Force
The Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces (SNLF) were the elite marine troops of the Imperial Japanese Navy, created due to the deep distrust between the Japanese Army and Navy, making joint operations almost impossible. The SNLF first saw action in 1932 during the Shanghai Incident of the Sino-Japanese War. These troops were highly trained, well-equipped, and had exceptional morale. Each SNLF formation was named after the base where it was formed, fostering strong unity and esprit de corps.
The SNLF wore uniforms similar to the Army’s, but in olive drab rather than khaki, with black boots instead of brown. This distinctive appearance made them stand out on the battlefield. Beyond their unique look, the SNLF were formidable units, often spearheading landings in strategic areas such as the Philippines and the Dutch East Indies. However, when faced with determined resistance, such as during the invasions of Timor and the Battle of Milne Bay in 1942, they suffered heavy casualties due to their refusal to surrender.
This plastic and metal set contains parts to build 32 SNLF figures. It includes plastic Japanese Infantry sprues along with metal parts, featuring new heads for each model (including an officer’s tropical hat and a sailor’s cap). Equipment packs are also included, featuring the SNLF's distinctive gas masks. There are also two new metal bodies, as well as arms holding a pistol and wielding a ceremonial sword. The set is completed with full-colour sheets of flags and devotional banners, perfect for adorning your figures' weapons as they carry the Emperor's word to the enemy.
