The advent of Rift-technology has allowed Japan to close the gap in certain areas. While expanding industrial capacity has proven difficult, the study of Rift transmissions shared by Germany enabled Japanese scientists to develop a family of rapid-firing compression weapons.
The Type 97 Chi-Ha, equipped with the larger Shinhoto turret, served as the initial testbed for these weapons. Successful trials led to a compression cannon-armed variant entering service in late 1946.
Now fielded with either a 47mm anti-tank gun or a rapid-firing light compression cannon, the Type 97 Chi-Ha has demonstrated the firepower needed to contend with heavier Allied tanks.
