Among the many allied troops serving under Wellington during the Napoleonic Wars, the Hanoverians earned a respected reputation fighting alongside British forces against Napoleon’s armies. Drawn from German territories connected to the British crown, these soldiers continued the struggle against France while many other German states fought under Bonaparte’s influence.
Organised, drilled and often commanded according to British military standards, Hanoverian infantry fought with impressive discipline throughout the Peninsular War and the Waterloo campaign. Deployed in the classic two-rank firing line, they operated in a manner very similar to British Line Infantry while retaining their own distinctive appearance.
This set depicts the troops wearing the characteristic peaked forage cap associated with Hanoverian formations, offering a visually distinctive alternative to the more familiar British Belgic Shako.
For Black Powder, the box can be assembled either as a Hanoverian Field Battalion or a Landwehr unit, providing excellent flexibility for building coalition forces during the later Napoleonic campaigns.
The unique uniforms and strong historical connection to Wellington’s multinational armies make these troops an excellent addition to British-led coalition forces. They add both visual variety and historical depth to Waterloo and Peninsular themed collections.
Steadfast beneath Allied banners, the Hanoverians proved themselves reliable soldiers in the final campaigns against Napoleon’s empire.
