Old Dominion: Optio (Officer)

Second in command only to the Centarchos, the lowest-ranking officer trained by the Collegia of the Old Dominion, the Optio is a stern and experienced veteran whose responsibility is to ensure that an officer's orders are obeyed... or ignored. When the Imperial Legions were created, the veteran commanders quickly realised that they needed a link, a linchpin between the professional officer corps trained by the Collegia and the veteran legionnaires who formed the backbone of all the Legions.
