The Type 97 Chi-Ha was one of the most iconic Japanese tanks of World War II and the second most produced medium tank after the smaller Type 95 Ha-Go. It saw widespread use throughout the Second Sino-Japanese War, in the Battles of Khalkhin Gol against the Soviet Union, and across all major WWII Pacific campaigns. With a weight of only 15 tons, excellent speed, and agile maneuverability, the Chi-Ha would have been classified as a light tank by most other nations of the time. Its armor, 33mm on the turret and 26mm on the hull, offered limited protection by mid-war standards.
This plastic kit gives you the option to build either the original Type 97 Chi-Ha or the upgraded Shinhoto Chi-Ha variant. The latter, introduced in 1942, featured a newly designed larger turret and a high-velocity 47mm anti-tank gun, providing improved firepower to better counter Allied armor. In Bolt Action, the Shinhoto Chi-Ha is classified as a light tank with an armor value of 8+. It comes with three experience levels: Inexperienced, Regular, and Veteran, and is armed with a turret-mounted medium anti-tank gun, a rear-facing MMG on the turret, and a forward-facing hull MMG.
The box includes all necessary plastic components to assemble one tank, a Bolt Action stat card, full-color waterslide decal sheet, vehicle damage markers, and a detailed instruction booklet with build and painting tips. Whether you choose the standard or upgraded version, this kit is a must-have for anyone looking to expand their Imperial Japanese Army collection or bring authenticity to Pacific theater battles. Model supplied unassembled and unpainted.
