Chi-Nu Medium Tank

The Type 3’s gun was among Japan’s most capable anti-tank designs, and its combination with thicker armour made the Chi-Nu a considerable step forward from the lighter Japanese tanks that had struggled against Allied armour. Yet the tank never had the opportunity to prove itself in battle. Just over 150 vehicles were produced, all of them being retained for the defence of the Japanese Home Islands in anticipation of an invasion that never took place.

That unrealised combat history makes the Chi-Nu an intriguing addition to a Bolt Action force. On the tabletop, it offers Japanese Armoured Platoons something their lighter vehicles cannot: a genuine Medium Tank capable of standing up to heavier opposition.

A 9+ Damage Value gives the Chi-Nu a solid level of protection, while its Medium Anti-Tank gun provides the firepower needed to threaten enemy armoured vehicles. It therefore adds both durability and credible anti-armour capability to Japanese forces, giving commanders another option when building a force for battles set in the Pacific.
