Italian Colonial Troops Infantry Squad
In its effort to assert its position among the major European powers, Italy began a policy of colonization in Africa at the end of the 19th century. One of the most strategic territories was Eritrea, where the Italian colonial army formed local units known as the Ascari battalions. Commanded by Italian officers and equipped with standard Royal Army gear, these soldiers became a cornerstone of the colonial forces in East Africa.
The Eritrean Ascari actively took part in Italy’s military campaigns, notably during the Second World War, where they played a key role in operations across North Africa. Feared for their fierce combat skills, loyal and battle-hardened, they distinguished themselves through their bravery up until the fall of Italian East Africa in 1941. Their contribution is often recognized as one of the most effective among Italy’s colonial forces.
This set includes 10 metal miniatures in 28mm scale representing Eritrean Ascari, featuring a variety of dynamic and evocative poses. The figures are supplied unpainted and unassembled. Plastic bases are included to assist with assembly. Perfect for reinforcing an Italian army in Bolt Action with a unique historical unit, these miniatures pay tribute to troops who made a lasting mark on Italy’s colonial military history through their discipline and combat effectiveness.
