The Wars of the Roses was a defining period of late medieval warfare, with the rival houses of Lancaster and York fighting for control of the English throne. On these battlefields, massed archers and heavily armed infantry played a decisive role in shaping the outcome of conflicts.
This set allows you to build a flexible late medieval infantry force featuring up to 30 archers, 18 billmen and 4 fully armoured commanders. The variety of troops included provides plenty of options for creating historically inspired formations and detailed battlefield units.
The archers represent one of the most recognisable elements of English warfare during the period. Deployed in large numbers, they could deliver devastating volleys before enemy formations reached close combat.
The billmen, armed with their distinctive polearms, provided a strong defensive presence and were capable of holding the line against opposing infantry and cavalry. The inclusion of four fully armoured commanders adds leadership figures who can bring character and hierarchy to your army.
With its versatile composition, this set offers an excellent foundation for armies of the late 15th century. It can be used to recreate forces from the Wars of the Roses or adapted for other English and European medieval conflicts of the period.
