Panzergrenadier units relied on armoured half-tracks, trucks, and field cars to keep pace with their armoured comrades. By the time of the 1941 invasion of Russia, troop leaders had begun equipping their half-tracks with the standard anti-tank gun of the period — the 37mm PaK 36. Replacing the forward machine gun with this light anti-tank weapon gave these units additional fire support as they moved swiftly across the battlefield, backed by their platoon’s personnel carriers.
Although not the most powerful anti-tank weapon — earning the nickname “door knocker” among crews — the PaK 36 was better suited for fire support than direct anti-tank combat. Over 300 half-tracks were converted into Sd.Kfz 251/10 variants, seeing action on the Russian, North African, and Northwest European fronts. The D variant featured simplified rear armour with a single sloped plate, while the command version retained the older, yet still effective, “door knocker” layout.
This vehicle is an excellent choice for collectors and gamers looking to expand their German forces with a versatile mobile infantry support platform. Easily recognizable on the battlefield, the Sd.Kfz 251/10 combines mobility with light firepower, making it ideal for fast assault and manoeuvre scenarios in games like Bolt Action.
