Fast-moving, aggressive and instantly recognisable by their long lances and striking uniforms, the Polish Line Light Horse Lancers earned a fearsome reputation throughout the Napoleonic Wars. Generations of warfare against Russian Cossacks had made Polish cavalry exceptionally skilled in mounted lance combat.
Armed with imposing nine-foot lances fitted with colourful pennons, these horsemen could strike enemies long before opposing sabres came within reach. Their effectiveness against disordered infantry and retreating troops made them especially dangerous during fast-moving battlefield engagements.
Although technically classified as light cavalry, Polish lancers fought with the confidence and aggression of elite shock troops. Their speed and reach allowed them to threaten enemy flanks, pursue broken formations and exploit weaknesses across the battlefield.
For Black Powder, these cavalrymen add both tactical mobility and tremendous visual character to a Napoleonic army, whether fielded as a dedicated Polish brigade or integrated into larger French cavalry formations.
The flowing pennons, elegant uniforms and dynamic mounted poses make these miniatures especially eye-catching once painted and deployed on the tabletop. Their distinctive appearance captures the flamboyant style of Napoleonic cavalry warfare perfectly.
Combining speed, discipline and deadly lance work, the Polish lancers became some of the most celebrated cavalrymen to ride beneath Napoleon’s banners.
