City States: Phalangites

Although Hoplites serve as the citizen soldiers for a particular City State, the Phalangites serve as its professional army. The Phalangites are hardened and experienced veterans of numerous campaigns, taking the lethal qualities of a phalanx formation to the next level. Rather than relying on a hoplon (shield), their daily drills focus on wielding their pikes, known as the feared sarissa, while maintaining their formation. This tactic transforms them into both a powerful force and an unyielding barrier, enabling them to maintain their defensive stance while simultaneously overpowering their enemies with an impenetrable hedge.
