Built on the reliable Czechoslovakian Panzer 38(t) chassis, nearly 3,000 Hetzers, also known as “Baiters,” were produced by the end of the war. Their small size and very low profile gave them significant advantages as tank hunters. Unlike larger tank destroyers such as the Jagdpanther and Jagdtiger, the Hetzer did not suffer from major mechanical issues. It also had better protection than vehicles like the Nashorn or Marder, which had exposed fighting compartments. Additionally, its remote-controlled roof-mounted machine gun provided effective close defense.
Hetzers were widely deployed across Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht formations and saw action on all fronts where Germany fought, as well as in the Hungarian army. The first Hetzers entered service with the 731st and 743rd Panzerjäger battalions in May and June 1944. Their versatility and reliability made them a feared and dependable choice for anti-tank warfare.
This plastic boxed set allows you to build one of three vehicle types: a mid-to-late production Hetzer, a Flammpanzer 38(t) flamethrower variant, or a 2cm Flak auf Hetzer reconnaissance and anti-aircraft vehicle. In Bolt Action, the Hetzer is classified as a medium tank equipped with a heavy anti-tank gun that can be swapped for a flamethrower. The anti-aircraft version uses the Flakpanzer 38(t) rules from Armies of Germany. This model is also compatible with Achtung Panzer!, the game focused on close-quarters tank combat.
