The Matilda II, one of Britain’s most iconic infantry tanks, earned its reputation through exceptional durability and battlefield presence. During the Battle of France, it proved nearly impervious to the standard 37mm and 50mm German anti-tank guns, which often failed to penetrate its thick armour. Although British forces were ultimately forced to retreat, the Matilda caused significant disruption to German advances and inflicted notable damage.
It was in the harsh North African desert, however, that the Matilda II truly made its mark. Deployed widely by Commonwealth troops, it saw heavy combat against the Afrika Korps. Its thick armour gave it a strong advantage—until it met the formidable German 88mm guns, repurposed for anti-tank roles. Even so, the Matilda remained in service due to its mechanical reliability and protective strength, often outlasting more modern vehicles in harsh desert conditions.
As newer enemy tanks emerged in Europe, the Matilda was increasingly considered obsolete and was reassigned to the Far East. There, it performed admirably against the much lighter Japanese tanks. Remarkably, it was the only British tank to see active service from the start to the end of World War II. This kit allows you to bring the legendary Matilda II to your Bolt Action tabletop, whether you're recreating battles in France, North Africa, or the jungles of Asia. Model supplied unassembled and unpainted.
