Deep Black Dip provides a direct way to introduce strong contrast into a miniature painting workflow. Ready to use and filled with Dipping Ink paint, the marker features a fluid, translucent formula that follows the sculpted volumes of the miniature. Paint naturally gathers in recessed areas while remaining lighter across raised surfaces, creating shadows, highlights and depth in a single application.
The marker format keeps the application straightforward. Paint can be applied directly to the miniature without a brush, wet palette or additional container. Its size 2 nib offers a practical balance between coverage and control, allowing different areas of a model to be treated efficiently while following its sculpted details.
The underlying preparation can be used to shape the final contrast. Apply Deep Black Dip over a white or light-coloured primer to make the most of the translucent paint. It can also be incorporated into a Slapchop preparation, with black, grey and white used beforehand to establish variations of light and shadow. These underlying values remain visible through the Dipping Ink and contribute to the definition of the finished miniature.
For consistent results, shake the marker thoroughly before use. Apply the paint directly to the surface and distribute it evenly, avoiding repeated work over areas that have already started to dry. When greater precision is required, the size 2 nib can be replaced with a separately available size 1 nib for smaller details and more controlled applications.
The marker is also designed to remain useful after its original contents have been consumed. It can be cleaned, refilled and reused with suitable paints, while replacement kits containing nibs and internal components are available to extend its service life. Refilling is possible with Dipping Ink, airbrush paints and other acrylic paints with suitable fluidity. Thicker paints can be adjusted with acrylic thinner before being used as a refill.
