Goth Skin Dip is designed to build visible contrast across a miniature with the direct application of a Dipping Ink marker. Its fluid, translucent formula naturally settles into recesses while leaving raised areas lighter. As the paint follows the miniature’s sculpted volumes, shadows, highlights and depth become apparent through a single application.
The ready-to-use marker format keeps the painting process focused on the miniature itself. There is no need to prepare a brush, wet palette or additional container before applying the paint. Equipped with a size 2 nib, it provides a useful balance between coverage and control, making it possible to work efficiently across different areas while maintaining a precise enough application.
The underlying preparation is important when working with a translucent contrast paint. For a strong result, apply Goth Skin Dip over a white or light-coloured primer. It can also be combined with the Slapchop technique, using black, grey and white beforehand to establish the main value structure. The Dipping Ink then colours the surface while allowing these variations in brightness and shadow to remain visible underneath.
Shake the marker thoroughly before use, then apply the paint directly to the miniature and distribute it evenly. Try not to repeatedly brush over areas that have already started to dry, as this can disturb the finish. For smaller details or areas where additional precision is needed, the size 2 nib can be replaced with a separately available size 1 nib.
Once the original paint has been used, the marker can continue serving as part of a reusable painting system. It can be cleaned, refilled and reused with suitable paints, while replacement kits containing nibs and internal components are available to extend its working life. Compatible refills include Dipping Ink, airbrush paints and other acrylic paints with an appropriate fluidity. Thicker paints can be adjusted with acrylic thinner before refilling.
