Solar Auxilia

The organisation of the Solar Auxilia is hierarchically structured to maximise effectiveness on the battlefield. Each cohort, made up of 120,000 soldiers, is subdivided into sub-cohorts of 1,200 men, led by officers such as the Legate Commander. These sub-cohorts broke down into tercios, which in turn were made up of specialised sections. Laser rifle sections are the most common, comprising squads of 20 infantrymen armed with Kalibrax V-I laser rifles. The Veltaris sections, made up of veterans, and the support sections equipped with Rapier batteries, also play crucial roles in Solar Auxilia's military strategies.

The Solar Auxilia's arsenal reflects their technological advance and their preparation for the most extreme conditions. Their Solar model carapace armour, derived from Saturnian armour, offers protection against light fire, radiation and thermal variations, while allowing survival in the vacuum of space. Although less resistant than the Astartes' energy armour, it provides an effective defence for human troops. Their preference for energy weapons, such as the Kalibrax V-I laser rifle, is explained by the simplified logistics compared with weapons using solid ammunition. This combination of sophisticated equipment and intensive training makes the Solar Auxilia a formidable force in Horus Heresy battles.
