Malifaux is a twisted mirror of an alternate Earth in the 1900s, a world of gothic horror, Victorian architecture, steampunk constructs, and wild west gunslingers. The Guild of Mercantilers is widely regarded as an omnipresent and ever-watchful force, tasked with protecting citizens from criminals and the horrors of Malifaux. However, this protective image is a carefully maintained illusion. The Guild’s true priority is not public safety, but the extraction and control of Soulstones, whose export back to Earth strengthens its grip over the world’s most powerful nations.
