Long-nose pliers, also known as long-nose pliers, are hand tools commonly used in a variety of fields, including DIY, electronics, jewellery and the automotive industry. They are distinguished by their slender, elongated jaws that taper to a point, allowing them to be used with great precision.
This versatile tool is designed to perform a variety of tasks requiring precision and control. Its narrow jaws and tapered tips make it particularly suitable for the following applications:
- Gripping and holding: ideal for handling small objects such as miniature parts, screws, cables and other hard-to-reach components.
- Bending and shaping: useful for bending and shaping wire, sheet metal or other materials to create specific angles and shapes.
- Wire working: widely used in the electrical and electronics industries to twist, bend and cut wires with precision.
- Jewellery making: used to handle delicate items such as pearls, jump rings and fine wires, which are essential for assembling and repairing jewellery.
- Craft and modelling: very popular for working on projects involving small details and meticulous assembly.
- Soldering: helps hold electronic components in place and position them correctly during the soldering process.
- Automotive: used for installing or removing small parts, handling cables and accessing difficult areas of an engine or vehicle.
- Household repairs: handy for tightening nuts and bolts in confined spaces, repairing small appliances or manipulating electrical connections.
- Model railways: popular with hobbyists for laying track, wiring and fine-tuning model railways.
- Fishing: for removing hooks, crimping fishing lines and adjusting certain equipment.
- Precision work: ideal for any task involving small or delicate materials, in the fields of crafts, fine mechanics or model making.
Cutting capacity
The long nose pliers have a side cutting edge at the base of the jaws, enabling them to cut wire and other materials. They can cut various types of wire cleanly, such as electrical cables, DIY wires and small metal or plastic rods.
Although specialised wire cutters are available, it is advisable to position the wire close to the base of the jaws for a clean, precise cut. This feature makes it a multi-purpose tool, reducing the need for a separate wire cutter in many situations.
However, cutting capacity varies according to the model and quality of the pliers. For thicker or more resistant wires, it is preferable to use specific wire cutters or more suitable cutting tools.
