Cutting compass

The compass cutter consists of a central pivot, an adjustable arm and a cutting blade. The central pivot acts as an anchor point and defines the centre of the circle to be cut. The adjustable arm allows you to adjust the radius to the desired diameter, while the blade attached to the end of the arm ensures a clean, uniform cut.  

Its versatility makes it compatible with a wide range of materials, including cosplay foam, plastic card sheets, styrene plastic, cardboard, film, light wood and paper. Thanks to this adaptability, it is widely used in crafts, graphics, model making and, of course, in the manufacture of costume elements for cosplay.  

Using a circular cutter requires a certain amount of precision. The user must position the pivot at the centre of the circle, adjust the arm to the desired radius, then rotate the tool around the pivot to obtain an even cut. This process guarantees precise, consistent results that are difficult to achieve freehand, especially for creations requiring a high degree of finesse.  

Apart from cosplay, where it is used to cut armour accessories, shields and ornaments, this tool is also used in graphic design to make logos and labels, and in model making to produce parts with exact shapes. In a more industrial context, reinforced versions can be used to cut gaskets, seals and other components requiring optimum precision. These models are often made from more robust materials, so that they can work with thicker, more resistant surfaces.  

Good maintenance is essential to maintain the performance and durability of the compass cutter. The blade must be kept sharp to ensure clean cuts and avoid damaging the material. A dull blade should be replaced or sharpened according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The central pivot, which usually has a needle-shaped tip, must also be in good condition to prevent slippage that could compromise cutting precision.  

It is advisable to clean the tool after each use, especially after working with materials such as vinyl or adhesive paper, which are likely to leave residues on the blade. Proper storage, particularly in a protective case, will prevent accidental damage and ensure optimum longevity.  

The compass cutter is supplied with several blades and pencil leads, as well as a safety cover for the blade, reducing the risk of injury when not in use.
