The Heresy of Horus is presented as a major chapter of conflict in Warhammer 40,000 history: it is caused by a plot by Chaos to defeat the leader and founder of the Imperium, the mysterious Emperor of Mankind, by fomenting rebellion and internal warfare in the expanding Imperium.
