Designed for the Black Powder – Epic Battles: American Civil War system, this boxed set recreates infantry regiments as organised during the American Civil War, broadly following similar structures on both sides and based on drill manuals such as Hardee’s.

A regiment typically consisted of ten companies of around one hundred men, supported by staff, musicians, and officers. In reality, casualties from battle, disease, and desertion meant that regiment sizes varied greatly over time. In some cases, weakened regiments were consolidated into new formations, sometimes affecting unit identity and morale.

Units were commonly identified by number and state of origin, such as the “15th Alabama” or the “4th Connecticut”.
