The Entomologist (English)

Pietro’s fascination with insects began during childhood, when he collected them in jars and studied their properties. His interest gradually became an obsession with finding ways to use insects to treat illness and physical injuries. In his pursuit of knowledge, he even deliberately infected himself in order to experiment with different remedies.

When the Rent tears through reality, Pietro attempts to use the venom of a captured spider to treat an injury. Arcane energies surge through his laboratory, shattering the jars that contain his collection. The released insects swarm over Pietro and enter his body through his mouth, nose and ears, triggering a horrifying transformation.

The Entomologist depicts Pietro Mignatta after this terrible mutation, with insect-like appendages and the disturbing appearance of a monstrous human-insect hybrid. The miniature provides a striking representation of one of Venice’s most cursed figures and offers a particularly distinctive subject for modelling and painting.
