Black Powder – War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) immerses players in one of the first truly global conflicts of the early modern era. Sparked by a dynastic dispute between Louis XIV of France and Emperor Leopold I of Austria over the Spanish throne, the war quickly escalated into a continent-wide struggle. The Grand Alliance—comprising Britain, the Dutch Republic and various German states—formed to counter French ambitions. Battles were fought across Europe and overseas, making this period ideal for varied and strategic tabletop warfare within Black Powder.
This starter army provides a comprehensive and flexible force, ideal for new commanders or players expanding an existing collection. Representing Marlburian-era troops, the miniatures reflect a period where uniform distinctions were primarily based on colour schemes rather than radically different designs. As such, this set can be used to represent multiple nations including French, British, Bavarian, Dutch and more, offering excellent versatility for historical gaming. The multi-part plastic figures allow extensive customisation of units and formations.
The box includes a balanced combined-arms force, enabling players to field infantry, cavalry and artillery right out of the box. Designed to work seamlessly with the Black Powder ruleset, it supports recreating the linear tactics and battlefield doctrines of the era while offering hobby flexibility and visual impact on the tabletop.
