Cavalry – Black Powder (War of the Spanish Succession)
In Black Powder, cavalry provides a vital shock element on the battlefield, capable of breaking enemy formations and exploiting weaknesses. During the reign of Louis XIV and the War of the Spanish Succession, cavalry doctrine varied significantly between traditional and evolving tactics. While some commanders embraced more structured methods, others—such as the cavalry under the Duke of Marlborough—favoured full-blooded charges designed to maximise impact and disruption through sheer momentum.
This boxed set allows players to build a full 12-figure cavalry squadron representing the diverse mounted forces of the French armies of the period. Each box contains components to assemble nine cavalrymen alongside a command group consisting of an officer, a bugler and a standard bearer. A wide range of heads and bodies is included, enabling players to represent multiple cavalry types and customise each unit to reflect historical variety or personal preference.
The kit supports the construction of line cavalry, cuirassiers, dragoons, and elite horse grenadier formations, including early French Grenadiers à Cheval. Interchangeable weapon options allow players to choose between pistol-armed skirmishing at the trot or decisive sabre charges, offering tactical flexibility that mirrors the battlefield doctrines of the era.
