British Heavy Cavalry Brigade

Widely regarded as some of the finest shock cavalry of the Napoleonic era, the British heavy cavalry displayed tremendous courage at Waterloo. The celebrated charges of the Household Cavalry and Royal Scots Greys shattered French infantry columns, although poor control and leadership ultimately exposed them to devastating French counterattacks.

The British heavy cavalry was organised into two principal formations: the Household Brigade and the Union Brigade. Fast-moving and deadly Royal Horse Artillery batteries armed with 6-pounder guns accompanied them in close support.
