This shade is historically significant as one of the upper surface colors of the SEA (South-East Asia) camouflage scheme introduced by the USAF Tactical Air Command during the Vietnam War and used until the 1980s. It was also used in the SIOP and SEA schemes applied to Strategic Air Command bombers (B-52, FB-111), as well as in the Euro One camouflage variants on TAC F-4s, F-105s, and A-7s. The color appeared in schemes based on the US SEA pattern used by the Argentine Air Force during the Falklands conflict, the Portuguese Air Force on A-7P, Fiat G.91, Alpha Jet, SA 330, Alouette II/III, and AW101 aircraft, and by the German Luftwaffe (Norm 83) and Heeresfliegertruppe (Norm 84) in the 1980s–1990s. It also served as the overall color of Belgian Air Force NH90 TTH and Agusta A109BA helicopters, and was applied to US Army MERDC vehicles, including early M1 Abrams tanks and M2/M3 Bradley IFVs. Finally, it featured in some USAF aggressor schemes, such as those on the F-16C.
