The Char B1 bis was a major upgrade to the original Char B1, incorporating thicker armour and a new APX4 turret fitted with a longer-barrel 47mm SA 35 gun. Designed as a breakthrough tank, its concept was heavily shaped by French experiences in World War I. This powerful combination of a hull-mounted 75mm howitzer and turreted anti-tank gun made it one of the most formidable tanks in the early stages of World War II.
On the battlefield, the B1 bis excelled in frontal engagements, especially during the Battle of France in 1940, where it proved highly effective against German Panzers. However, its slow speed and high fuel consumption made it less suited to the fast-paced, fluid warfare that was quickly becoming the standard. Despite these limitations, it left a strong impression during its short period of frontline service.
Following France's capitulation, the German military captured 161 Char B1 bis tanks. Many were put back into service as Panzerkampfwagen B-2 740 (f), and several were converted into flamethrower variants. This kit allows you to build either a French or German gun tank, or one of two German flammpanzer versions. It includes one resin and metal Char B1 bis tank, Bolt Action stat cards, a full-colour decal sheet, vehicle damage markers, and an order dice. Models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
