The Renault R35 was one of the most widely deployed tanks in the French army during the early stages of World War II. Designed to replace the outdated FT-17 from World War I, it quickly became a key infantry support vehicle thanks to its thick armour and mechanical reliability. Although small and relatively slow, the R35 was built to move with infantry units, not outrun them, making it perfectly suited for its intended role.
Its two-man crew operated in a tight, confined space, often leading to a heavy workload, but the tank compensated with strong protection for its class—up to 43mm of armour. Armed with a low-velocity 37mm main gun and a machine gun, the R35 was tailored for short-range infantry support, ideal for urban combat and woodland engagements where speed was less critical than survivability.
The Renault R35 saw widespread use beyond French borders. After France’s fall, it was captured and pressed into service by German, Italian, Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, and Yugoslavian forces. This kit includes one resin and metal Renault R35 light tank with a metal tank crewman, stat cards, damage markers, a decal sheet, and an order dice. Note: the model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, ready for hobbyists and wargamers seeking to add an iconic early-war tank to their forces.
