Neodymium (NdFeB) magnets are the most powerful permanent magnets currently available. Their material is obtained by sintering and then cut to the required dimensions.
Designations such as N35 or N52 indicate the quality of the material used. The higher the number after the ‘N’, the more powerful the magnet. This provides two main pieces of information:
The amount of magnetic energy stored per unit volume
The maximum operating temperature
All our magnets start with an ‘N’, with a maximum operating temperature of 80°C (176°F). Grade N52 is the strongest currently available.
In terms of strength, for two magnets of different magnetization and sizes, volume generally plays a more decisive role than magnetization alone. So a larger magnet will often be stronger, even with a lower grade.
Note on the force of attraction: The values given are taken from our own tests, carried out on a single magnet, along its central axis, without any external influence.
