Foam board 5 mm is a key material for scale modelling, dioramas, and scratch-building projects, especially when precision and versatility are required. It consists of three layers: a central foam core (commonly polyurethane or polystyrene) sandwiched between two thin cardboard sheets. This structure provides an excellent balance between lightness and rigidity, making it ideal for constructing buildings, terrain features, and detailed scenic elements.
Easy to work with, foam board can be cleanly cut with a hobby knife, engraved, or textured depending on your needs. The inner foam core can be shaped or embossed using sculpting tools or texture rollers (brickwork, paving, tiles, etc.), allowing for realistic surface effects. Before painting, applying a thin layer of white glue is recommended to reduce surface porosity and achieve a smoother finish. The material readily accepts paints, varnishes, and weathering techniques, making it highly adaptable for creative projects.
It supports multiple assembly techniques:
